So #vcfwest was a pretty smashing success all things considered. Our Windows Megatable had a lot of people come by, not one person said what we were doing was “too new”, and we only attracted one Linux Guy™ who told us how much Windows sucks.
Want to do it again but next year is Apple’s 50th so I’m swapping back over to Macs.
The event itself was much better this go around too, we had *working air conditioning* even!
The Amiga stuff was whatever I guess.
After reading more about the computers from Poland that I saw at #vcfwest, I noticed that the Cobra 1 only had an article in Polish Wikipedia, so I used it as the basis of a new article in English Wikipedia. @mwichary, please let me know if I made any egregious errors (or, of course, you can fix them yourself ). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cobra_1
All 6 of my monochrome monitors made it through VCF West
6 Displays is the limit on a 68k mac unless you start adding display adapters on SCSI. This is a Quadra 950 with 5 nubus video cards and the the onboard video driving a desktop that is over 4400 pixel wide.
It is unfortunate that my career’s biggest cultural contribution shows up at the Computer History Museum in a visual context that very few people at the time would recognize. (Luckily someone at #VCFWest upstairs had AIM in its more common form, although on hilarious OSes.)
PicoGUS available in the Boole room at VCF West! Come and buy them so I don’t have to bring them back home with me! #vcfwest #vcfwest2025
Xerox Daybreak system at #vcfwest.
Brother Bob worked on the software; brother Dick invented the optical mouse.

(That's a black & white monitor; curious color artifacts)

As it turns out, this is the oldest Mac I have ever touched and probably ever will. It's the 2397th Mac ever built - it came to life in the 2nd week of Mac production.
And... it runs. It booted right into System 2. The floppy works, the display is crisp, sound works, and the mouse/keyboard are both functional. I haven't assessed the internals yet, but I couldn't be more thrilled.
The little clip below shows it. running Grid Wars.

Even with a... not-great keyboard, there's something so right about playing Tetris on a Soviet computer.
I'll tell you what I'd do, man: five CRT’s at the same time, man. #vcfwest
Dale Luck opens the Amiga/040th panel at #VCFWest with a retrospective on the Amiga hardware preview at January 1984's CES show.
He had to write the code for the demo before any hardware was available, so he also wrote a Blitter emulator!
I had both these books in college but got rid of them. Now I’ve got them again!
I'm enjoying the #MEGA65 keynote by @dddaaannn at #VCFWest.
