This particular set of kai-awase were on display at the wonderful Yūsai-tei (祐斎亭) in Arashiyama.
A last stroll through the 'kimono forest'.
Nearby Tenryū-ji (天龍寺 'Temple of the Heavenly Dragon') was completed in 1345 for the 7th anniversary of Emperor Go-Daigo's death. Ashikaga Takauji (足利尊氏 1305-1358) settled on the name after hearing of his brother's dream.
At the plaza's heart is a small fountain and dragon sculpture, inspired by the golden creature Ashikaga Tadayoshi (足利直義 1306-1352) saw emerging from the Ōi River (大堰川) in a dream.
Brainchild of the designer Morita Yasumichi (森田恭通), the 'Kimono Forest' runs along the platform and tracks of Keifuku Randen Arashiyama Station.
Each of the 600 acrylic pillars is lined with Kyō-yuzen fabric that is lit up from behind to create a colourful display.
