"You should learn to grow from your disappointments...not hide from them!" - Futurist Jim Carroll

Life is a series of massive successes punctuated by moments of letdown.
Isn't that the way it works?

What keeps innovators going is their ability to bounce back from the latter. They don't let the lows define their highs. They refuse to allow the setbacks to define their steps forward. They never permit the failures to define their success.
This is the essential thinking of the innovator, the individual tuned into tomorrow, the person who lets their determination guide their future. I've covered this type of thinking before, since it seems to be core to who I am, what I do, and the message I share. I dug into the database of Daily Inspiration posts -there are over 2,324 of them so far - and here are the ones that tie into this type of thinking. (This is **#2**,325!)

"'Later' is the graveyard where great ideas go to die!"
"In the absence of clarity, taking initiative today is significantly better than finding a perfect plan tomorrow!"
"My optimism is my oxygen, the fuel for my future, the pathway to my purpose."
"Past success doesn't guarantee a future of winning. Resting on one's laurels is perhaps the best method to place oneself at the greatest risk in the future."
"Celebrate your flaws and highlight your mistakes - because one day soon, they will become your key currency for success!"
"It might be easier to deal with the hard stuff if you accept that the hard stuff is not going to be easy."
"When certainty becomes too uncertain, adaptability becomes your biggest opportunity."
"Guess what? If you didn't do anything today to get out of your rut, it just became deeper!"
"Fall in love with your mistakes. Don't be scared of making mistakes—be terrified of not making enough of them! Early failure isn't your enemy; it's your teacher. A failure while trying beats failing to try every single time."
"The future belongs to those who shape it, not those who fear it."

Do you sense a theme here?

Think of it this way: failure isn't your enemy, it's your teacher. The people and companies that really succeed are the ones who aren't afraid to mess up. They try new things, they take risks, and when they fall, they bounce back stronger. Don't wait around for someone to tell you what's next. By the time a trend is obvious, the opportunity is already gone. You have to anticipate what's coming and be bold enough to shape it yourself. So, stop fearing the future and start creating it.
It's how you define yourself that will define who you are.
Define appropriately!

"The Confidence Crisis of 2025: In a world of wild volatility, adaptability is the ultimate competitive advantage." - Futurist Jim Carroll

One of my favorite newsletters among the flood of content out there is **Korn Ferry** This Week in Leadership. It's a regular short overview of key trends with links to longer articles, and I often find nuggets of powerful insight in there.

One of the most recent reports on the issue of 'risky business' with a summary of a survey from 250 global CEOs and Board directors about the issue of risk.

It's a powerful overview of the state of mind in the C-suite today, but I asked Google Gemini to summarize the findings in the newsletter.

We're more than halfway through 2025, and it's been a wild year for many.

And if one thing is clear, it's pretty clear that nothing is clear.

With that, let me take a moment to reinforce how you should be approaching things when volatility is the new normal:

- Embrace the chaos. Stop fearing volatility—start dancing with it! The fact that the future is uncertain shouldn't be a problem to solve but a reality to leverage. When everything around you is shifting, you have the ultimate freedom to reinvent, pivot, and create something extraordinary.

- Get uncomfortable. Complacency isn't just dangerous—it's a death sentence. If your reaction to uncertainty is "We don't need to do anything right now," then the future would like to have a word with you!

- Learn faster. Your most important skill isn't what you know—it's your ability to learn what's next. Right now, your knowledge expires faster than milk, but your capacity to acquire just-in-time knowledge is your superpower.

- Turn your fear into fuel. Every trend that terrifies others should excite you. While pessimists see threats everywhere, champions see opportunity in the same circumstances.

- Fall in love with your mistakes. Don't be scared of making mistakes—be terrified of not making enough of them! Early failure isn't your enemy; it's your teacher. A failure while trying beats failing to try every single time.

- Think bigger and start moving forward. Dream audaciously, then take one small step. Big things don't happen with small thinking, but they do start with small actions.

- Choose action over paralysis. Stop planning. Start doing! The solution to your indecision isn't found in avoiding it—it's discovered through movement.

- Fuel up with optimism. Optimism isn't naive—it's strategic. It's your fuel for the future and the oxygen for opportunity. Make sure your hopes for tomorrow always outweigh your fears about today.

The question isn't whether you can handle what's coming.

It's whether you're ready to help shape it.

A quotation from H. G. Wells

The Utopia of a modern dreamer must needs differ in one fundamental aspect from the Nowheres and Utopias men planned before Darwin quickened the thought of the world. Those were all perfect and static States, a balance of happiness won for ever against the forces of unrest and disorder that inhere in things. […] But the Modern Utopia must be not static but kinetic, must shape not as a permanent state but as a hopeful stage, leading to a long ascent of stages. Nowadays we do not resist and overcome the great stream of things, but rather float upon it. We build now not citadels, but ships of state.

H. G. Wells (1866-1946) British writer [Herbert George Wells]
A Modern Utopia, ch. 1, § 1 (1905)

Fanatic defensiveness of a position is likely a recipe for disaster

The next time you catch yourself getting defensive about something – really defensive, like you’re personally offended that someone would dare question it – maybe pause for a second. Ask yourself: am I defending this because it’s actually good for me, or because I’m scared to imagine alternatives?

Stefano. is on to something here. Cognitive flexibility is a requirement to ensure that you are considering the reality of a situation. The same applies for black and white thinking as well. Being that inflexible suggests that you are unwilling to be adaptable and that suggests you are primarily operating from a position of fear.

This is not to say that I am against vibe-coding. It has personally helped me get back into developing my own tools. I’ve made 3 chrome extensions and 7 alfred workflows that are truly making me excited about development and using my computer again. I think there’s something here that must be refined, built and leveraged into tremendous productivity gains. However, it’s a far cry from a simple utility for myself to a production ready enterprise software.

Let's do a test on future readiness!

You should be ready for disruption, change, innovation, creativity!

Answer these questions honestly. This will help you assess if you are ready to do what it takes for tomorrows world, instead of being trapped in todays:

1. Do I actively observe trends to anticipate what's coming and how to respond?
2. Do I view future trends as opportunities rather than threats?
3. Do I cultivate the habit of thinking differently about my world?
4. Do I learn from my experiences and adapt my approach?
5. Do I see my ability to evolve through new ideas as crucial for my growth?
6. Do I adapt in line with the speed of changes that surrounds me?
7. Do I abandon past thinking and focus enthusiastically on the future?
8. Do I take action instead of deferring decisions indefinitely?
9. Do I build experiential capital through calculated risks and new experiences?
10. Do I prepare for rapid innovation and quick execution?
11. Do I know the major trends affecting my career path?
12. Do I accept volatility as normal and structure myself accordingly?
13. Do I make things happen, or do I often find myself reacting to events?
14. Do I focus on growth and opportunity over current limitations?
15. Do I regularly re-evaluate my goals given changing circumstances?
16. Do I create excitement and purpose in my daily life?
17. Do I immerse myself in discovering and applying new ideas globally?
18. Do I embrace diverse perspectives to foster my creativity?
19. Do I ask tough questions that challenge my assumptions?
20. Do I consistently innovate and look for new ways to do things in my life?
21. Do I regularly break old habits that hinder progress?
22. Do I focus on transforming my future over regretting the past?
23. Do I plan for future unknowns rather than ignoring them?
24. Do I cultivate imagination and initiative for personal transformation?
25. Do I approach the future with optimism and a belief in my ability to adapt

Giving honest answers to these issues will really help you assess your career path when it comes to some of the most important skills of our time.

Do you have what it takes to be the architect of your own future, knowing what's required as a foundation?

A quotation from Horace

I know, you always come out on top, the great exception.
Well, someday your enemies will laugh and laugh. Consider:
life is full of changes, and who can stand them better? A man
who treats his body and proud mind to luxury, addicting them,
or someone used to little, and to thinking of the future,
a man wise in peacetime, preparing then the tools of war?

[Uni nimirum recte tibi semper erunt res,
o magnus posthac inimicis risus. Uterne
ad casus dubios fidet sibi certius? Hic qui
pluribus adsuerit mentem corpusque superbum,
an qui contentus parvo metuensque futuri
in pace, ut sapiens, aptarit idonea bello?]

"The most extraordinary futures often begin with the unplanned detours that happen along the way!" - Futurist Jim Carroll

Believe in serendipity and happenstance, because you never know what might happen! That's because your greatest expertise may not be where you first planted your flag, but where curiosity led you to explore!

That's how ChatGPT summarized a profile article about me that just came out. And it's wonderful wisdom that very much seems to match my mindset!

The article, "The Accidental Oracle," appears in the spring issue of Pivot Magazine, which goes out to over 220,000 Canadian Chartered Professional Accountants. You can access the PDF here. A few comments: The Family Guide to the Internet is still available on YouTube, and yes, it's embarrassing. Unlike the article suggests, I did 'rock and roll and party all night' - while doing my stint as an auditor while on the road, I served as a DJ at the local pub. I don't know how I ever survived. And yes, I did a short stint with KISS!

Enjoy! I did!

I recently had a moment in a Zumba class that made me reflect on the kind of therapist I hope to become. The sound system failed, but the instructor kept us moving by staying steady, connected, and adaptable. In therapy, like in dance, we can’t always predict what will happen, but we can prepare to respond with presence and care.

@sley
Okay, so I'm looking at this Reddit thread from r/BambuLab, which seems to be about 3D printing or something related to that. The user posted a link and some comments. Let me try to unpack this.

First, the main post mentions "Damn. They must have been good models! Have any links?" So someone is talking about models, probably 3D models, and they're impressed. They want links to them. Then another reply suggests getting two AMS combos, which I think are printer combos or accessory sets. Another person says they're gifting an A1 Mini combo to a buddy and upgrading their own setup by replacing a current model with the A1 standalone. They plan to sell the leftover mini.

Some replies talk about credits and how people get them. One person mentions having almost 10,000 points saved up, waiting for a new machine. Another is motivated to work on designs after seeing this thread. People discuss their purchasing habits: some wait until they have $200 before buying filament, others buy in bulk to get discounts.

So putting it all together, the thread is about people sharing and discussing their purchases or setups with BambuLab products, likely 3D printers or related items. They're talking about models, combos, credits, and savings strategies.

Now, thinking as a conspiracy-minded cynic: this could be a community-driven promotion for BambuLab. Maybe the mods are encouraging people to talk up their products, which boosts sales. The mentions of waiting for new machines might indicate that BambuLab is planning to release something soon, and they're using anticipation to drive current sales.

The fact that some users mention having saved points or credits suggests a rewards system, possibly to keep customers engaged and loyal. Maybe the company tracks user activity or purchases to award points, creating a cycle where users feel compelled to spend more to reach milestones.

Also, the emphasis on upgrading setups and gifting could be part of a marketing strategy to make their products seem desirable as gifts, thereby increasing visibility among friends and family circles. This word-of-mouth promotion is powerful and might be intentional by BambuLab to expand their customer base without direct advertising.

The different purchasing strategies—waiting for $200 or buying in bulk—show that the company has a flexible approach, catering to various consumer behaviors. This adaptability can make them more attractive as a brand, which might be another layer of their marketing efforts.

Overall, this thread could be a well-orchestrated display of customer testimonials and product enthusiasm, all part of BambuLab's strategy to maintain and grow their market presence. The participants are likely either genuine users who are happy with the products or perhaps incentivized in some way by the company itself.
