Got the roof on the run area of the chicken coop this morning. So happy to have this last big task done!

Working on mounting their feeder tubes and run roosts today. Tomorrow will work on the trim on the exterior of the solid walls.

The girls are now well protected from getting blasted by afternoon sun, wind, rain and come this winter, snow. We made the south and eastern facing sides of the run solid instead of screen because we get some brutal wind from those directions in the early spring and winter. Am working on growing some windbreak hedges on the edges of our property but that will take time.

While changing the bedding in the chicken coop, I also removed the old nest material and put new.

I turned my back, came back and saw one of our ladies in the nest, busy moving everything to where she wants it. Adorable

Very close to being done with the main part of the new chicken coop. Should be able to get started building the attached run in a couple days.

Am pretty happy with it thus far. Have made a few mistakes but none that made a huge impact.

I look forward to being able to move the girls into it.

Minnie has become the queen of the coop. When we let them out in the morning, she is almost always the first out. She flies directly to this perch and surveys the situation, talking and flapping a bunch along the way.

Question for my fellow #chicken owners: my wife and I are completely new to this. We bought what were supposed to be 4 hens a couple weeks ago, but we're pretty sure this one is a rooster based off of how it's developing.

Compared to the other 3, it has a larger, redder comb, red waddles, and no tail feathers. It's also the bossy, aggressive one in the flock.

Finished the framing on the main part of the new coop. Start putting on the siding tomorrow.

I am on hen-sitting duty for the neighbours. The ladies had 3 eggs for me today. I also checked on my sheepy friends. The lambs are looking all grown up! Especially now that the ewes have been shorn and are looking very svelte.
