The US attorney for DC — the federal prosecutor — handles #adult #criminal cases in the District & can charge 16- & 17-year-olds as adults if they are accused of certain violent crimes, including murder, rape, armed robbery & burglary.

US Attorney #JeaninePirro, whom #Trump appointed to the job in May, has called for lowering the age limit for charging juveniles as adults to 14.

U.S. District Judge James #Boasberg found in April that #Trump officials could face #criminal #contempt charges for willfully disregarding his March 15 order barring the #deportations to #ElSalvador of alleged #Venezuelan gang members under the 1798 #AlienEnemiesAct without the chance to challenge their removals.

3) Another note - Deputy #AttorneyGeneral #ToddBlanche, who represented #DonaldTrump during his 2024 #criminal trial, and facilitated the transfer of #convicted #sextrafficker #GhislaineMaxwell to a club fed minimum security facility, was appointed acting #librarian of #Congress after #Trump fired librarian #CarlaHayden saying she was advancing a “woke” agenda. Dr. Carla Hayden was appointed senior fellow at Andrew W. Mellon Foundation to advance public #knowledge through libraries & #archives.

Any #criminal investigation would revisit one of the most dissected chapters of modern American #political history. It is also surfacing at a time when the #Trump admin is being buffeted by criticism over its handling of documents from the #JeffreyEpstein sex trafficking investigation.

It was also not clear what precise claims of misconduct #Trump admin officials believe could form the basis of #criminal charges, which a #GrandJury would have to sign off on for an #indictment to be issued.

The development is likely to heighten concerns that the #DOJ is being used to achieve #political ends given longstanding grievances over the #Russia investigation voiced by Trump, who has called for the jailing of perceived political adversaries…

Prosecutors accuse #Bolsonaro of heading a #criminal organization that plotted to overturn the #election, including plans to #kill President Luiz Inácio #Lula da Silva & a Supreme Court justice. Monday’s order followed one from the top court last month that ordered Bolsonaro wear an electronic ankle monitor & imposed a curfew on his activities while the proceedings are underway.

Another *victim asked Berman to have a third party review any documents to ensure no victims’ names or likenesses are revealed through the process, saying that it appeared the #DOJ’s priority is to protect “wealthy men.”

“To learn that our own president has utilized thousands of agents to protect his identity & these high-profile individuals is monumentally mind-blowing,” the victim wrote. “That is their focus? Wow!”

Bloomberg News reported last week that the #FBI redacted Trump’s name & those of other high-profile individuals from govt files related to #JeffreyEpstein, citing 3 people familiar w/the matter….The names were withheld under privacy protections because those individuals, including #Trump, were private citizens when the federal investigation into #Epstein began in 2006, the people said.

The #US on July 18 asked US District Judges Richard M. Berman & Paul Engelmayer to release transcripts of the proceedings in the case against #Epstein & his associate, #GhislaineMaxwell, & both judges have given *victims until Tuesday to respond to the requests.

Natalie Baldassarre, a spox for the #DOJ declined to comment. #Trump has acknowledged a friendship with Epstein, but says it ended years before Epstein’s death.

“I am not some pawn in your political warfare,” said the *victim. “What you have done & continue to do is eating at me day after day as you help to perpetuate this story indefinitely. Why not be completely transparent? Show us all the files with only the necessary redactions! Be done with it & allow me/us to heal. You protect yourself & your powerful & wealthy ‘friends’ (not enemies) over the victims, why?”
