Happy 26th birthday to the iBook G3 clamshell.
This was taken on my Key Lime model.
Oh my giddy aunt, the Toast Titanium 5 logo brings me joy.
I have (of corpse) backups of:
1. My home directory
2. /opt (macports)
3. MacOSX Software that I have installed
Is the solution really to repartition the disk and reinstall everything?
Thanks in advance. Please be so kind to boist

Another #retrocomputing question:
My "new" old iBook G4 has a 120GB hard disk, which is entirely allocated to Mac OS X 10.5 "Leopard". I want to set aside 10 or 20 GB for Mac OS 9.2.2 "Classic". I can boot from CD into Mac OS 9.
Now I need a tool to resize the partition, preferably without destroying the Mac OS X partition.
I disabled journaling on the start drive and tried the following:
1. resizing with disktool
2. resizing with iPartition
Both don't work.

I wasn't aware the Apple Platinum theme actually had a logo and an about screen:
The only copilot I ever want to use.
Pure insane (emulated) joy. I know this video is a few years old but thank so much @ActionRetro
The indeterminate progress bar from Mac OS 9 will always be my favorite… the barber pole style is classic Macintosh but flat designers at Apple killed the style for a more “Android OS” looking one. Lame.
A while back I recreated the Mac OS 9 progress bar with Core Animation (and indeterminate progress bar) but needed something to test them in. Heh… so I made a test bed that looked like the Classic Environment launcher from Mac OS X Tiger.
As I said it’s snappy. That’s the internet we had decades ago. The connection speed improved massively but now it’s full of heavy crap that would kill this machine (if it even loaded).
Note that’s on an unsupported 1.5Ghz G4 Mini so pretty much one of the fastest possible OS 9 machines.
I’d love to test this on my clamshell G3 iBook but it’s in a box on another continent …
4 out of 4 tracks for my OS9 EP are done (aside from minor tweaks and mastering) #MARCHintosh #SuperCollider #LiveCoding #Algorave #MacOS9 #RetroComputing
Remembering Graphing Calculator [1] in today's macOS… I always loved how quickly it plotted inequalities…
Reminder of the Graphic Calculator story [2] (which shipped with all initial PowerPC computers, and then some) courtesy of @timbray. Not sure if @RonAvitzur is still active on the fediverse…

heres a 303 Day tip that im sure is relevant to a lot of people in 2025: how to streamline your ReBirth RB-338 startup on Mac OS 9 https://pulusound.fi/blog/quickly-launch-rebirth-on-mac-os-9 #303day #RetroComputing #MacOS9 #Marchintosh
Upgrading to the latest Mac OS X from 10.0 or 9. That platinum theme UI was sooooo crunchy good though!!!
#Christmas is the time of year for enjoying the classics. And this
Swedish computer game from the mid 90s is one those #classics.

Installed Power #MachTen 4.1.4 and upgraded to 5.0.5. After startup I got reminded quickly that backspace didn't erase characters but 'stty erase "^H"' fixed that.
MachTen is bundled with #afterstep but very few other binaries. and compiling OpenSSL might take some time...
Does anyone know any repo of precompiled #ppc binaries for this platform?
