Advertising may be the only solution. Maybe the Corporation for Public Broadcasting can be resurrected as the Foundation or Cooperative for Public Broadcasting as a fundraising arm that acts as an omnibus advertising agency that doles out distributions to the local stations.

I want NPR AND PBS to survive, especially in rural ‘Merica where I grew up. PBS for me as a child was a window into worlds foreign to me. Sesame Street, while targeted often at urban kids, showed me, a rural kid, what stoop life was; what a city transit train was. I had no idea. Trains carried grain and coal not people!
The rural stations that served me are really in danger. I donate to a smaller Kansas NPR station that I stream even though I live in KC metro.
