Tag suveræniteten tilbage med Notes/Domino

I følge Semaphors Tobias @fonsmark er der oversete fordele ved Notes/Domino, som kan føre til en renæssance for det klassiske software. Det aktuelle fokus på digital uafhængighed gør, at mange leder efter alternative løsninger. Notes/Domino er et oplagt sted at lede.

For år tilbage var Notes/Domino markedets mest udbredte mail-, kalender,- og samarbejdsplatform. Det var før Microsofts Office pakke og Outlook overtog markedet. Imidlertid følger der med brugen af Outlook påtvunget hosting i Microsofts cloud-platform. Modsat har Notes/Domino den kæmpe fordel, at man selv kan drive løsningen på egne servere og derfor opretholde sin digitale suverænitet, forklarer Tobias Fonsmark.

Notes/Domino var oprindeligt ejet af Lotus, derefter IBM og nu HCL. Det er således en licensdrevet løsning og dermed ikke open source. HCL er dog åben overfor open source, og vender sig mere og mere mod dette miljø. Som et eksempel herpå er HCLs chatprodukt Sametime's mødecenter i dag bygget ovenpå open source softwaret Jitsi, som Semaphor også er fortaler for og udbyder af.

Semaphor ser Notes/Domino som en oplagt mulighed for at tage sin digitale suverænitet tilbage kombineret med open source løsninger.

When I would get too many of these, usually done on sticky notes, I would stuff them in Ziploc sandwich bags. Eventually there are enough of those to fill large freezer bags.

For me, I did actually want to keep these notes, as well as keep them searchable.

For that purpose, I ended up using the #app #Joplin, and I am delighted with all of the things I can do with it. ❤️

And then I shredded the paper copies of the notes once I was done, lol! 😂
