When my university went all-remote in 2020, I spent a lot of time on developing meaningful asynchronous materials. Screencasts in the Khan Academy format are effective: short (< 15 min), informal (writing by hand, talking freely), with in-built pauses and exercises.There is value in such approaches. Most"online lectures" are just recorded Powerpoint presentations, giving the illusion of "covering the material".
