The second season of #Sandman is a bit of a tangle of stories, which are played for sentimenal value and nice pictures mostly. And Tom Sturridge as struggling with being stern, emotionless and sometimes smiling.

But the final true chapter, is a Gaiman classic, with philosophical tones. Albeit a bit long.

"Sometimes life and death affect us in ways that have nothing to do with the choices we make. That is how stories are born."

"Death: the High Cost of Living" was my introduction to the Sandman Universe almost 30 years ago. It was also my introduction to its author that we're not allowed to name in a positive sentence anymore (because the thought police is watching).

I just watched the Netflix adaptation and it was so good. It has all the things that I sometimes found that were missing to Death in the Sandman series (that's almost my only gripe with the show, she's not fleshed out enough).

This story, to this day, remains one of my favorite stories ever, and proof that its author is one of the literary geniuses of our time (and I feel compelled to add "despite being a problematic human being" even though it's totally off-topic, but the thought police has this kind of influence here, unfortunately).

It's unlikely to happen, but I wish Netflix could also make "The Time of Your Life."

I finished watching Sandman and... don't be silly, get off your high horses and go watch it. You're missing out big time.

You "boycotting" it won't change anything that has been done. He's career is over anyway. Forget the man and respect the art.

The second season of "Sandman" was quietly released on Netflix on July 3 and 24, with a bonus episode coming on July 31. @inversedotcom's Hoai-Tran Bui reviews the series in the context of the accusations against Neil Gaiman, on whose graphic novels the TV show is based. "It’s still difficult to parse a story that impacted so many, from an author who hurt many more. In the end, it seems the funeral for 'The Sandman' will be a hushed one," she writes. Article contains spoilers.

Inverse · How Do We Talk About A Neil Gaiman Show Now?As Netflix’s adaptation of 'The Sandman' winds down, we grapple with the death of the author.

I binged most of the last part of Sandman (I just need to watch the final episode, which I imagine is the adaptation of "The Wake.") and you know that binging is not in my habits. And... I'm not okay. (despite knowing exactly what was going to happen).

Also, they'd better give all the Emmys to Tom Sturridge next year. His performance is mindblowing.

Sandman S2E6 was so beautiful and so sad, and everything I was hoping it would be. The only unfortunate thing is that it's not the season finale of season four as it would be in a perfect world.

But that's okay, as I mentioned before, while I hoped for a full adaptation, it's the best they could do in so few episodes. (most of what was cut as the side stories where Dream is not or barely present - the main storyline is almost completely adapted)

And now, I'm so excited and terrified for the final four episodes.

The teaser for the second half of Sandman, season 2 has "one of the biggest spoilers without context" I have ever seen in a teaser.
Sure, it's a 30 year-old spoiler, but still.

Apart from that, as I already suspected from watching the first half of the season, the show was not cancelled because of the "Gaiman problem". The season was already shot and in post-production when the scandal was made public, and there is no way they could have rewritten, reshot and re-postprod the whole thing in less than a year.

So even if during the production of season one, they were probably planning for five seasons (give or take one), it was known that season 2 would be the last one as soon as they started writing it. For those not as obsessed by Sandman as I am: the main series has 10 volumes, season one covers volumes one and two. So it was safe to assume that every season would cover more or less two volumes.

However, the first half of season two, already covers more than two volumes (and some side stories have clearly been dropped) and the teaser above mostly shows scenes from the later volumes. So, the entire season was planned to cover the rest of the main story from the get-go.

Oh and finally, there will be a bonus eleventh episode (just like for season one) and apparently it'll be "Death: the High Cost of Living" which is the story that introduced me to the Sandman universe and that remains to this day one of my favorite stories.

Sandman S2E3 is so good.

(yes, I was tempted to binge the show, but no, instead, I'm savoring it one episode at a time)

One thing I really love in the writing is how several episodes from the comics are combined into one TV episode (for example the way they managed to include Midsummer Night's Dream in the main storyline.) That's no easy feat.

And now that the matters at stake at the beginning of the season are settled, I can't wait, but dread what's to come. (in other words, Season of Mists is over, I understand that a Game of You won't be adapted or barely, maybe one single episode?
And then, everything else in six episodes? That's gonna be tough, but doable.

Season 2 of Sandman arrived on Netflix. One of my favourite comics series, I was so excited for the first season, but this second (and final, truncated season) arrives rather poisoned by the allegations against the original author.

I'm watching it, but the excitement has gone... I feel sorry for the others working on the show, who planned years more tales to explore, now undone by events outside of their control

lol, tbf Gaiman being as massive creep didn't help!

You cannot separate the Art from the Artist because the art is the expression of the artist.
Otherwise you've just got some meaningless AI slop that expresses no living being.
