In #Spanish when it comes to verbs, how does one know whether to use “a” in front of an infinitive when “to” can also be built in?

I’m not sure how to phrase this in an Internet search - if those worked anymore anyway.

Por ejemplo,

Quiero aprender a montar a caballo.

I imagine we just need to know our verbs like aprender, that some are followed by words like “a” or “de”, and let’s make mistakes in the meantime, but figure it’s worth asking my network here if there’s a pattern.

Dato histórico para recordar: el acta original de la independencia de Argentina fue redactada en castellano y quechua.

También la denominación no es "Provincias Unidas del Río de La Plata" sino "Provincias Unidas en Sud América", una aspiración de libertad para todo el continente.

¿Cuál o Qué?

I would think that one should use “cuál” when asking about what they will order from a menu, since there is a limited set of choices, but apparently it’s “qué”? “Qué va a ordenar?”

Igualmente, I find it a little confusing that, ¿Cual será la temperatura mañana?” is a sentence, since technically there are infinite possibilities for what the temperature will be.

I’m mostly processing this “out loud” but if you speak español or know it well, I’m glad to hear your tips.

Grasshopper?!?! Time for another #FunFact from #Spanish!

Both of the words I know in Spanish for “grasshopper”are fun, interesting words.

—El Saltamontes. Pretty much the universal term. It’s one of those compound words with a verb (saltar) and a noun (monte). Literally: The “it jumps hills.”

—El Chapulín. Used commonly in #Mexico and #CentralAmerica. From Nahuatl (Aztec) root words meaning “it bounces like a rubber (hule) ball.”

The conquistadors encountered the plant, known as "tlālcacahuatl" in Nahuatl, in the marketplace of Mexico Tenochtitlan, the Aztec capital. Interestingly, if you think it sounds similar to cacao, you are correct in that intuition: it means "earth cocoa bean."

However, the plant was originally from South America. You might conclude that "maní" is perhaps from Quechua (the language of the Inca). Wrong. "maní" is a Taino word, a Caribbean language.
