Hi, fedi! I'm crawling out of my hermit hole to share my new app, TumblBee, with you all 🐝

lilacpixel.itch.io/tumblbee

TumblBee is a pay-what-you-want cross-platform app for exporting your original #Tumblr posts (and pages) to Markdown or HTML. Back up your content and browse it locally, or export to Markdown and drop your posts into your favorite static site generator. (There's even a guide to exporting for Obsidian, if that's your thing.)

If you decide to give it a try, I'd love to hear about it! Boosts are, as always, hugely appreciated 💕 :boost_requested: Thanks so much!

I started archiving text content from a list of #Tumblr #folklore links into a Feather Wiki so I could read them without fear of the pages disappearing (some already have!). I still have a bit of work to do (better attributing work beyond linking to old URLs, improving styling, etc.), but I've got most of the stories copied if you want to read them too!

I also linked to some other stories I love online, and I'd love to add more if anyone wants to give me the links!

Facebook’s reach is rubbish, and Meta’s politics? 🤮 So, I’ve started sharing Marine Mammal News over on Tumblr. Yes, there are ads, but at least they’re not* shoving targeted political nonsense in your face (*as much).

If you’re into whales, dolphins, manatees and the like, please come follow along: marine-mammal-news.tumblr.com/

Does anyone know of a good way of cross-posting between Tumblr and Mastodon? I am mainly on Mastodon but have a few people here who I still really want to stay in touch with, and was REALLY excited a couple of years back when they promised Tumblr was getting Federation support, but that appears to either not be happening or is taking forever.

I've been making a concerted effort to manually post in both places, but if there are any cool tricks or hacks anybody else has found, I'd love to hear them.

Mashable: Tumblr pauses fediverse integration, WordPress switch. “Tumblr is ditching — or, at least, suspending — its plan to migrate over to WordPress. Relatedly, that also means pausing plans of integrating Tumblr into the fediverse.”

A person has asked me if their adolescent kid could have a #Tumblr account.

I dimly remember Tumblr being Least Shit and kinda weird and wonderful. Is that still the case? Looking it up, it seems it's owned by Autocrappic these days, so it might have been run into a wall?

Is it a safe space for a young and curious mind or better to be avoided?

"The announcement also raises questions about what this means for #Tumblr’s integration with the #opensocialweb, known as the fediverse. By migrating its infrastructure to #WordPress, it would have become a #federatedapp. #Mullenweg admits that was one of the arguments for making the move, but hints that it’s no longer a priority.
“…in the meantime, I think if there was a big push to implement fediverse, we would just do it on the Tumblr code base,” he said."
