So far, none of the #US #spy agencies approached has transferred the data, several people said.

The unprecedented interest in data by officials at the #ODNI startled some senior agency ofcls, who have expressed concerns about the #counterintelligence & #privacy risks of aggregating what could be a large amount of sensitive information that may include references to intercepts of electronic communications on overseas targets…

Related: "The Department of Justice in December found that Russia was paying several rightwing influencers who repeated many of the false claims—and members of the Trump administration, including President Trump himself, have repeated them as well. That has blurred the line between foreign information warfare and legitimate political speech, which, of course, is exactly what such campaigns are designed to do.

“We’ve allowed this transition where now the identification of misinformation is censorship,” the congressional staffer said.

What are the implications of this shift? A poll out this week from journalist watchdog group NewsGuard and survey company YouGov found that almost a third of Americans now believe at least one false claim directly attributed to Russian state media outlets."

A week after that #hack, the #CISA recommended that users "discontinue use of the product" barring any mitigating instructions about how to use the app from #Smarsh.

Jake Williams, a fmr #NationalSecurity Agency #cyber specialist, said that, even if the intercepted text messages were innocuous, the wealth of #metadata - the who & when of the #leaked conversations & chat groups - posed a #counterintelligence risk.

I saw this happen with a cleared colleague in the IC. He was disgruntled and courted by Israelis for months. Eventually they set up a shadow company for him, he left his govt job and became a "Vice President" at this two-person company that was subcontracting to Israeli defense companies. The FBI was watching him closely for a long time.

By the way the Israelis got him with a honeypot. A gorgeous "academic" who was somehow very close with high ranking Israeli military officials became miraculously romantically interested in him. He fell for it, traveled to Israel, where they told him gee, it turns out he had a Jewish ancestor! Amazing. He questioned none of it. Went hook, line, and sinker.

Russia and China, have ramped up recruitment efforts targeting US federal employees—particularly those recently fired or at risk of termination. These efforts are unfolding aggressively on LinkedIn, where adversaries are reaching out under the guise of job opportunities, networking, and consulting.

If you are a federal employee or contractor, especially one with a security clearance, be cautious of unsolicited messages offering career opportunities, high-paying contracts, or overseas roles.

These recruitment attempts are designed to exploit individuals who may be facing uncertainty in their careers, using seemingly legitimate job prospects to extract sensitive information.

…the chaotic recent weeks inside the #FBI have raised concerns among current & former agents that distractions could cause a #terror plot or other #threat to go undetected.

Some agents say that there’s trepidation about pursuing cases related to Russian #counterintelligence or #criminal matters related to #Russia, in part because of fear that their work could be seen to clash w/the [#Trump] White House….

The agency normally would prefer not to put these names in an #unclassified system. Some fmr ofcls said they worried that the list could be passed on to a team of newly hired young software experts working w/ #ElonMusk & his #DOGE team. If that happened, the names of the employees might be more easily targeted by #China, #Russia or other foreign #intelligence services.

One fmr agency officer called the reporting of the names in an unclassified email a “#counterintelligence disaster.”

NASA chief calls for investigation into report that Musk and Putin have spoken regularly

Some US officials have raised counterintelligence concerns in the last year about Musk’s interactions with US adversaries like Russia, but the US intelligence community is wary of looking into those interactions because Musk is an American citizen, an official familiar with the matter told CNN.

So... if it wasn't Musk, but any other American citizen like you or me, US intelligence would be all over it, especially since we don't have the added benefit of lucrative government contracts.

Just sayin'...
