The Conversation: How poisoned data can trick AI − and how to stop it. “Data poisoning might not be entirely preventable. But there are commonsense measures that can help guard against it, such as placing limits on data processing volume and vetting data inputs against a strict checklist to keep control of the training process. As Americans flocked to these dangerously tall and heavy vehicles, the #pedestrian death rate soared: between 2013 and 2022, pedestrian fatalities increased 57 percent"

"Few trends have been more damaging to the #environment and #PublicSafety than the dramatic growth in the SUV and truck market in recent decades."

The admin has already terminated thousands of #research #grants at agencies like the #NSF & #NIH, including on topics like transgender health, vaccine hesitancy, misinformation & diversity, equity & inclusion.

The order could affect emergency relief grants doled out by #FEMA, #PublicSafety initiatives funded by the #DOJ & #PublicHealth efforts supported by the #CDC. Experts say the order is likely to be challenged in court.

A 2016 project to stabilize an old dam near a popular swimming spot on the Big River has created a "predictably dangerous place" where six people have drowned in nine years.

Sam Totoni did a great job talking to scientists, residents, and the many local, state and federal agencies involved, to untangle this mess.
