Guess I'll go make another pot of coffee...
Hey hey.
Yet another post about #VCFWest because the maps and layout just went up.
I’m all the way at the end of the main hall, exhibit 1/The Aero Aesthetic. Come on by on August 1-2, come get your streetpass on if you have a 3DS. Or get a 3D-printed bauble. And maybe play some games or confess your love to whoever’s sitting on one of the other machines via AIM.

Retrocomputing adventure of the day: installed Windows XP alongside Windows 98 on my retro machine. On a whole different disk to prevent it from overwriting the MBR on the disk Windows 98 is on. Well guess what? It did it anyway. #retrocomputing #windows98 #windowsxp
Fasttracker II added to https://www.windows98.website featuring a banger xm by the infamous duo of dubmood^razor1911 and MBR!

I found an old Acer laptop running #windows98 It has an external CD-ROM unit which doesn't work until drivers are loaded. Same for USB, so I can't boot it with anything except Windows.
I would like to give it a new life installing #freeBSD ... Can you suggest a way to install it from within Windows 98?
Always keep your browser up-to-date!
Boing Boing: Transform your desktop into Windows 98 and fight monsters in Desktop Survivors 98 . “Desktop Survivors 98 is an auto-shooter roguelite dungeon crawler, except the dungeon is Windows 98. Think Vampire Survivors with weapons like a recycle bin that shoots documents or a solitaire playing card. Even Clippy makes an appearance — transformed into ‘Swordy.’ Unlike Clippy, Swordy […]
finally a CSS framework I can see myself using: 98.css

This is XFCE with the standard Adwaita theme and Win98SE icons. A nice, Windows2000-ish working environment without much ricing.. the Win98 icons alone make for such a clean simplicity IMHO. It's always a joy to work with this VM.. I'm mostly using it for network maintenance wherever I need it.
Finished my #ITXLlama builds today. Built around the #Chieftec BT-02 case, it features the ITX Llama motherboard, a #Radeon 9250 and a #3dprinted front control panel I designed with #OLED display, rotary encoder and buttons for the #MT32Pi. Also a much needed reset button, a switch to select either the MT32-pi or GS WaveTable audio and an SD slot. The software needs a bit of tweaking, but this could be an awesome and brand new box for playing #90s era #MSDOS and #Windows98 games. So far it plays #DukeNukem3D flawlessly with #GeneralMIDI sound.
Good old times. #Windows98 #Retrocomputing
I’m definitely a fan of #RetroComputing, but my allegiance clearly lies with #Apple rather than #Microsoft. My old PCs run #Linux or #Haiku, but I get what retro #Windows peeps want. So, if you want to install #Windows98 quickly, here you go. #tech #howto #utilities https://boingboing.net/2025/03/31/how-to-install-windows-98-asap.html
@256 I can only imagine how cool it would look to have a 9-monitor #Windows98 setup with CRTs of different sizes, in a half-organized manner (like the setup in #CloudyWithAChanceOfMeatballs)
Ok... THIS is the last addition to this build then
Picked up one of those GBA shaped retro handhelds and had to do what I do and immediately made a Windows 98 theme for it. #retrohandheld #windows98 #gameboy
It's 1996... On your Windows 95 computer, a warning appears when starting a game that says...
"You appear to have Dial-Up Networking enabled.
For best performance, you should exit Road Rash and disable Dial-Up Networking."
Of all the things to be asked to disable for performance
4 second boot time, oh my god! This is almost on par with TempleOS boot time!
Now beat that, systemd and Windows!
Btw this already has xorg and xfce4 installed lol. It's just on a tty cos I put autologin on agetty-tty1/conf
Finally copied it all, saved to my own laptop and left with hers for her to copy.
I'm sure others would have an easier way to this, but I felt accomplished that I got it done.
