LA Times: Is it finally time to ban new homes in the Rancho Palos Verdes’ landslide zone?

"...After almost two years of unprecedented landslide movement that has upended life across much of the picturesque Portuguese Bend area of the Palos Verdes Peninsula, officials want to permanently ban new construction in the landslide zone.

The proposed ordinance, which has drawn backlash from some property owners, would prohibit construction of new homes or additions in the area — even on vacant lots, of which many remain. ..."

Rancho Palos Verdes, CA - June 04: Eva Albuja, a longtime resident of Rancho Palos Verdes views the landslide zone damage on Palos Verdes Drive South in the Portuguese Bend area near her home Wednesday, June 4, 2025. Albuja has been living without natural gas service for months, but is hopeful it will be turned on soon. She's been surviving at home without hot water, her stove, etc, and views the latest in the landslide movement in her neighborhood in the Portuguese Bend area (where movement is still bad and her parents live). I love this. "A dog’s frantic barking in the middle of the night saved the lives of 67 people in a Himalayan village before a massive landslide swept away their homes.

Residents of Siyathi village in Mandi district, in India’s northern state of Himachal Pradesh, said their 5-month-old dog began barking around 1am on 30 June, just as heavy rains triggered a slope collapse that destroyed at least a dozen houses."

CBS news' 24/7 streaming channel had some reporters on the ground @ the protests against the #Unconstitutional #ICE camps / raids and attacks on the SEIU workers.

Reporter said that normally the local law enforcement relies on what cops call "Mutual Aid" to help each other out before calling in any larger armies whenever a "situation" arises.

And this is an instance where there was no need for "Mutual Aid". Gavon Newsom is suing over the waste, and Drumpf will lose.

So that now you have some more context for that phrase I never liked "Mutual Aid", do the math:

First of all: The United States does not have any money, jurisdiction or value. Oligarchs [consumption] going untaxed means that debt is EXPLODED.

Funds paying fed cops to jet-set and stay in [fancy motels] are rising the thermometers, melting glaciers, and parching the already scorched deserts. The #tornado, #flood, #landslide, #mudslide, #derechos and #hurricane season this year is again expected to be the worst on record. For each of the last 5 years, the NOAA is reporting "warmest year on record", where each year is getting hotter, making more extreme #weather.

All of this is because military does not keep anyone safe. ICE does not make America "secure", it makes it more vulnerable to climate disasters. These are FACTS.

Hurricane season is just about started; mark my words that there will be no money to help all those rednecks in the deep south after this hurricane season, because of the waste.

American empire is OVER. Take your money out of the markets, especially take it out of military and "security" based oligarch-run companies, they are going to crash the hardest, the fastest.

Stupid president does stupid things. He is too stupid to realize what he does already is making the worst possible future for his grandkids.

Swiss communities are on alert after a massive landslide.

A number of Alpine communities in Switzerland's Lötschental valley are getting ready to evacuate their homes following Wednesday's landslide involving millions of cubic meters of ice, rock and mud.

Rivers in the area have become swollen and have dammed up behind the rubble, rock and ice that thundered down into the valley after the Birch Glacier began to collapse.
