“The Entertainer”

Shure 55 vintage microphone, created and rendered in Blender. Multiple Boolean operations and an unforgiving chrome surface made modelling an interesting challenge. The scene is lit with a single HDRI. Balancing highlights and shadows in low-light scenes can still be a struggle, pushing my post-processing and lighting skills to their limits.

I realized virt-viewer doesn't let me click on the 'circled blue i' button to configure the vm.

This command works though:
virt-manager --connect qemu+ssh://elgar.local/system

I need this because it seems that virtual USB doesn't recover from a device reboot when using the the #shure update utility under a windows VM. So I have to manually disconnect and re-add the usb hardware when it gets stuck at 90%

I doubt this is a Shure bug. Workaround anyone?

Pondering a #podcast setup, needs for 2-4 persons, but up to 6 should be good, individually recorded tracks and personal headphones for monitoring.
So, multitrack usb audio interface, headphone amp and microphones. #shure #behringer
Any recommendations?

I'm so proud! #Sennheiser never would have allowed a #garage-built #proton-pack to make it in to their behind-the-scenes video! (That's me starting at 2:36)

For contrast, don't miss the Sennheiser #Spectera video.

I'm doing the next generation protonpack #fpga telemetry system as an #opensource #openhardware design.

Team #mastodon will help me out, right?

Internal to the #Axient #Digital #PSM Receiver (ADXR) that #Shure just shipped there is, unsurprisingly, a programming header
that exposes #serial, #JTAG, etc. It is in violation of (Murphy's)[en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edward_A.] law.

This stupid cable has the same connector at both ends, but is electrically asymmetrical. It has no key feature and has no obvious polarity marking on the cable.

I will not allow this mistake to
propagate to the new design.

@nervous_jessica Yes, a "Same same but different" case, this.

Have you run into any "true" counterfeits? I work at #Shure and their products get faked so well that sometimes it's difficult even for Shure engineering staff to tell if they are the real deal or not. They sometimes get sent in for service. And Shure owns their own factories specifically to avoid "overproduction" concerns.

I'm celebrating a bit, because my employer, #Shure, has announced the product I have been working on, so now I can finally talk about it a bit in public.

@rasteri It's funny to see this in my feed. I just sent a request to my firmware guy at my #shure day-job today requesting that he port doom to a custom firmware image on our next generation portable product that we're about to ship. This of-course would have to be done in our "free time" as nobody would be willing to request official engineering time for this. My boss didn't even know it was a thing.

I sent him this.

maybe this is better?

@cidney #shure is a privately held company in Niles, Illinois. It recently laid off a bunch of people in anticipation of a lack of growth in the upcoming years. Some of these people had worked there 30+ years. I've been there 23 years and like the work. I'm a EE doing hardware though. I worked in the software department there for years. It was ok. They may be hiring for certain very specific needs, but it's not the wild hiring spree they were on when their predictions of growth were unrealistic.

The #Microphone I've been using for #Sideband (& occasional AM) on the HF bands is a #HeilSound Heritage in chrome.

Quoting bhphotovideo.com, "...produces a frequency response of 50 Hz to 18 kHz with a midrange boost at 4 kHz to increase vocal clarity and instrument brightness."

Just bought a #GreenBullet mic for #BluesHarp use @ a live gig in Oct. Again quoting B&H, "Frequency Range: 100Hz to 5kHz"

Hmm. Maybe the #Shure is an even better mic for SSB?

I should set up an A/B test.
