#PSA if you have #Verizon #FiOS: Sign into the Verizon web site and then go to https://www.verizon.com/consumer/myverizon/homeoffers (or click on the "Home Offers" button from the home page) and check if you have any offers you can redeem. I have no idea why, but when I checked last week I had on offer a "loyalty discount" of $10 per month for 12 months, free for the taking.
I found an odd kind of bug in the router provided by #Verizon for #Fios. I wanted to set up a static route to a second internal network I have, 192.168.64.0/29 and it repeatedly fails. The gateway to this network is a Linux machine with IP Forwarding enabled and filtering rules enabling forwarding between the appropriate interfaces. However, the route will just not add. When I add the routing information manually to my desktop, it works just fine so I know it is a strange bug in the router firmware itself.

Google Fiber did the same thing, but usually selectively, as if it were a lottery. Verizon Fios made big general promises to everyone. Both were a bad example of how to be a Fiber Optic company.

Fiber is great, but from my viewpoint, Verizon Fios is awful, but only because they never came here. Fios was promised to nearly ever town in the country, by Verizon, and often they would build networks through your town, just so they could service the town next door, without providing service to you.
I wish DSL Reports dot Com was still online. There were so many horror stories concerning Verizon Fios.
#Verizon #Fios
@Linux Fiber Internet is so much better than cable-based. Really there is no comparison. Having a dedicated circuit to the central office instead of sharing available bandwidth with your neighbors is an incomparable experience. It means you're getting the full bandwidth that you've been provisioned for.
I love my #Fios service. I don't much care for #Verizon though.
Since I'm now working for a company HQ'd in Australia, I'm going to be doing a lot more meetings in the evening while multiple other people in the house are using the internet. So I decided it was time to switch back from 320Mbps down/20Mbps up cable internet to 1Gb #Verizon #FIOS (I used to have FIOS but gave it up years ago to save money).
As a result, I was reminded yet again of what a complete clusterfuck Verizon's website and onboarding are.

Frontier FIOS having issues in my part of the world, most unhelpful response LOL.
Frontier: I see your service is currently impacted by an outage.
Frontier: Is there anything else I can help you with today?
Has anyone experienced unauthorized users on their #Verizon #Fios #Wifi ? I was troubleshooting a slow network and found hosts that I can’t account for. Problem immediately cleared after I blocked them. I then changed to a stronger password and so far, so good. I'm surprised as I don’t really have any neighbors in close range. I wonder if Verizon pulls from a small set of passwords that could be compromised? So pay attention and change those p/w's people! #Networking
I'm trying to figure out when Verizon FIOS will likely be coming to an address in North Adams, Massachusetts. According to the coverage map at https://broadbandnow.com/Verizon-Fios, it's available now. But Verizon customer service isn't able to say anything about the timeline - or even that it will be coming.
Does anyone have any pointers as to how to get more information?
lol this might take a while…
Started at 5/31 11am ET. We’ll see how fast this baby moves on a 12yo #MacMini using #ProtonVPN & gigabit #fios through a #glinet #AXT1800 router, a CAT6-connected AP, a #MoCA -connected AP, & finally CAT6. It’s a circuitous route, I know, but these are the limitations of a 74yo house.
FWIW speeds right now are slower than usual: 174 Mbps down, 178 up. Usually in the 500-600 range. Maybe it’s the age of the #Mac, or I’m splitting between the #Ente & speed test?
Finally found the time to get #ipv6 going on my #pfsense behind #verizon #fios. That's working and of course, we get another infestation of ads... After some more fine tuning of #pfblocker, happy to say that the exterme test of canyoublockit works.. or should I say fails ;)

Now wait & see if the members of my household agree with this blocking.
I signed up for #RCN #Astound last night. I got free installation, a free month, a $100 gift card, and $25/month for 300mb service, vs. $40+ per month from #Verizon #FIOS.
They came to my house less than 12 hours later and activated my service.
Then I tried to cancel FIOS. Alas, it can't be done online or on the weekend: you have to call them on the phone during the week, so they can waste your time trying to convince you not to cancel.
All the more reason I'm happy to switch back to RCN.
I was paying $30 for #FIOS with a discount from my daughter having #VerizonWireless. She switched, pushing the FIOS price to $40. Then they silently raised it to $44. I called them and asked what can you do for me, and they said we can drop you back to $40. That's still higher than #RCN #Astound but switching is a hassle so I took it.
A month later, they've silently undone the change and raised the price back to $44.
This kind of bullshit is why I hate #Verizon. I think I'll be switching to RCN.
