#creativeworkshops are not everyone's cup of tea.It is important to tailor #research and #codesign activities to the community you are working with.
For this project exploring freedom of movement, for example, we invited a group of designers from all over the world to use the #collage technique to shape their idea of *countries with no borders*.
Creative community, creative methods. It was the perfect match!
But involving people in #arts and #crafts isn't always that easy, and often not necessary either. My advice is that of always having an #adaptablemindset, #goingwiththeflow and #trustingtheenergy that the group creates.#alignmentwithcommunity #atease #notonlycreativity #respect

Updating my #introduction to celebrate changed balance of life things. I live and walk by the sea in Wollongong, and I’m a gardener. In 2025 I joined up with a small organisation focused on compassionate ways of working in healthcare. I’ve been on here since 2016 and I’m still here, listening and thinking.
I believe we have to work together differently to face the future we’re facing. Life is fragile.

I work on #participatory methods as part of my artistic practice. So I’m delighted that the newly published Routledge Companion to #Creativity in the #BuiltEnvironment features a chapter on work I carried out between 2014–2018 on #codesign methods for #infrastructure to make cities more #resilient
The paper tackles a particularly significant knowledge gap in the Food-Water-Energy nexus by presenting the experience, decisions and lessons learnt from the #codesign process of an interactive tool to visualise these complex interrelations for a particular case: #food choices in kindergartens in Poland.
Maria Jose Galvez Trigo is a Lecturer (Assistant Professor) at Cardiff University researching human-robot interaction and machine learning, with accessibility and co-design as key aspects of her research.

I’m a researcher, mostly on relationships and family violence. I lead a research team for a nfp and am about to start my PhD at UNSW, interrogating the gender binary in FV policy and practice.
I’m disabled, bi+ and genderqueer, and a White settler in “Australia.” I’m a parent of a small child. That stuff informs how I think, but also, identity shifts.
