In the waning days of the first Trump administration, the White House announced a plan to convert an estimated 50,000 government employees to a status similar to political appointees—meaning that they would become “at will” hires who serve purely at the president’s pleasure. Schedule F, as this plan was known, was never implemented then and was revoked immediately under Joe Biden’s presidency. But now the policy is back, formally resurrected by executive order on April 18. If this new-look Schedule F survives the inevitable court challenges, it will mark a major step forward in a MAGA quest laid out by J. D. Vance in 2021 to “fire every single mid-level bureaucrat, every civil servant in the administrative state,” and “replace them with our people.”

As I've mentioned a few times, the Trump regime is undoubtedly aware that there will be opposition inside the US federal workforce to its plans to repurpose the machinery of state to accomplish objectively fascist objectives. Which is of course why they're also working to give Der Leader the power to purge anyone who won't enact their heinous ideology in government, and presumably replace them with Heritage Foundation-trained obedient little nazis; as was leaked during Trump's 2024 election campaign.
As this Common Dreams article notes, this plan was originally called Schedule F when Trump tried to enact it near the end of his first term, but the fascists haven't abandoned the project because it's a vital step in enacting their reactionary, Christian Nationalist agenda. Now Trump is attempting to progress this ideological purge and restacking scheme forward under a new title, "Schedule Policy/Career," to ensure nobody with a conscience inside the government sticks around long enough to object to their fascist activities.

On some level, what the regime is attempting to do here amounts to a "jobs for cracker Republicans, and nobody else" program. The fact is that this is a fascist regime, attempting to force the entire US government to enforce a fascist "unreality" on society that would justify and enable their Christian Nationalist plans and intentions. The largest federal labor union in the U.S. said Friday that tens of thousands of federal workers could soon “have their jobs politicized” and be swiftly fired under a new rule proposed by the Office of Personnel Management.
Under the rule, an estimated 50,000 career civil servants would be reclassified as “at-will” employees,
removing civil service protections and making it easier for the federal government to dismiss them.
Donald Trump and his billionaire ally, tech mogul Elon Musk, have long claimed the federal workforce is rife with “rogue bureaucrats” and is part of the “deep state,” pledging to dismantle the civil service.
Trump said on his social media platform, Truth Social, that reclassifying workers “will allow the federal government to finally be ‘run like a business.'”
“If these government workers refuse to advance the policy interests of the president, or are engaging in corrupt behavior, they should no longer have a job,” he said.

The lawmakers have all backed legislation to protect the federal civil service from being reclassified outside of merit system principles without the approval of Congress,
and issued a warning to congressional Republicans who have heard from angry constituents in recent weeks about the administration’s spending cuts through the so-called Department of Government Efficiency.
“Anyone who cares about our national security, or receives Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid,
or any other critical service administered by the federal government, has a vested interest in protecting our merit-based federal workforce,”
said the lawmakers.
“We have long fought for legislation to protect the federal workforce from this kind of attack.
To our colleagues who will hear from their constituents if government services continue to decline because of this decision:

Steven Miller described, while providing little detail, executive orders to undo actions taken by President Biden to institute #DEI (“diversity, equity and inclusion”) measures in federal agencies,
and to roll back protections for #transgender people receiving some government services.
Trump also plans to reinstate an order he issued during his first term to create a new category of federal workers, known as #ScheduleF, that would lack the same job protections enjoyed by career civil servants, who are supposed to be hired according to merit and cannot be arbitrarily fired.
That would allow his administration to shift large numbers of federal workers into a new status over which it could keep a much tighter rein, including the ability to hire and fire them more easily.
The order is significant as Trump and Miller have a deep hostility toward large portions of the federal bureaucracy, which the president-elect often derisively calls the “deep state.”
Trump is also planning a string of orders related to #energy policy, much of which arise from pledges to encourage offshore drilling and end the electric vehicle tax credit, as well as stop spending on Mr. Biden’s climate policies.
And on #immigration, as The New York Times has reported, Trump is planning to designate drug cartels as “foreign terrorist organizations”;
declare a border emergency to allow him to go around Congress and surge money and potentially military resources to the border;
and declare a public health emergency to essentially seal the border as the administration did during the coronavirus pandemic.
He also is expected to curtail asylum grants and step up detentions and deportations.

Donald Trump is planning to appoint Russ Vought -- a Christian nationalist who has plotted to remake the federal workforce in MAGA’s image -- to serve as his administration’s director of the Office of Management and Budget, according to CBS News.
Vought held the same position during Trump’s first term.
Since leaving office he has been a leading architect of #Project2025
-- a sprawling plan to provide staffing and policy options to the next Republican administration.
In his role at Project 2025, Vought was instrumental in ensuring that 
decimating the ranks of federal civil service became a conservative priority.
He wrote the second chapter in Project 2025’s policy book — Mandate for Leadership
— titled: “Executive Office of the President of the United States.”
In it, he argued that
“a President today assumes office to find a sprawling federal bureaucracy that all too often is carrying out its own policy plans and preferences
—or, worse yet, the policy plans and preferences of a radical, supposedly ‘woke’ faction of the country.”
As part of his anti-woke crusade, Vought has repeatedly defended and promoted #Christian #nationalism
-- at one point calling for an “army” of right-wing activists with “biblical worldview” to staff the next Republican administration.
He wrote an op-ed for Newsweek in 2021 with the headline 
“Is There Anything Actually Wrong With 'Christian Nationalism?’”
More recently, Politico reported that a document from the Center for Renewing America
— a MAGA-aligned think tank Vought founded
— listed “Christian nationalism” as a top priority for a second Trump term.
While at the helm of the "Center for Renewing America", Vought has been outspoken in his advocacy of #ScheduleF — a scheme to reclassify career civil servants as political appointees. Trump attempted to implement Schedule F in the waning days of his first term,
but its effects were blunted by his loss in 2020.
If his incoming administration moves forward with the plan -- which seems all but inevitable -- as many as 50,000 career staffers could be replaced with MAGA loyalists.
(Some other estimates put the number closer to 20,000.)
Vought has championed the use of congressional rules to defund and remove individual government employees for punishment
and deploying “ideological purity tests” to ensure federal workers are loyal to Trump.
During a recent interview with former Fox News host Tucker Carlson, Vought argued that the “whole notion of an independent agency should be thrown out.”
Following a broad backlash to Project 2025, Vought was caught on hidden video discussing his work at the initiative and how it might play if Trump returned to the White House.
“Eighty percent of my time is working on the plans of what’s necessary to take control of these bureaucracies, and we are working doggedly on that,” Vought said.
“Whether it’s destroying agencies’ notion of independence, that they’re independent from the president.”
In the interview, Vought claimed that he’d been working on
“about 350 different documents that are regulations and things of that nature” for a future Trump administration.
“You may say, ‘OK, DHS, we want to have the largest deportation
— what are your actual memos that a secretary sends out to do it?’
Like, there’s an executive order, regulations, secretarial memos,” Vought said.
“Those are the types of things that need to be thought through so you’re not — you’re not having to scramble or do that later on.”
This early preparation includes creating documents to facilitate the “largest deportation in history” and to deploy the military to “maintain law and order” against civilian protesters.
Vought elaborated that the mass deportations were part of a plan to “end multiculturalism” in the country.
As a hardline conservative, Vought has pushed to implement harsh #austerity measures throughout the country.
The Washington Post reported that Vought advocates for eliminating trillions of dollars of reductions in “anti-poverty programs such as housing, health care and food assistance.”
He has called for massive cuts to Medicaid and floated future cuts to Social Security and Medicare.
