Andrew Sullivan, exec dir of No One Left Behind, said the crackdown is another #betrayal from an admin that also eliminated temporary protected status [#TPS] for #Afghans.

“We stayed there & put troops at risk to try & get Afghan #allies to safety,” said Sullivan, an Army veteran who served in #Afghanistan. “To now look at potentially sending folks back—I think that doesn’t honor the sacrifice of the 13 Americans that were killed at Abbey Gate, keeping that airport open to save Afghan allies.”

A federal judge on Tuesday blocked the #Trump admin’s move to terminate long-running #deportation protections for hundreds of thousands of #Haitians in the #US, preventing their removal.

In a 23-pg order, Judge Brian Cogan of the Eastern District of New York wrote that #DHS Secy #KristiNoem “does not have statutory or inherent authority” to end the #immigration protections, known as Temporary Protected Status #TPS. The admin moved to end the protection last week.

The #Trump admin asked #SCOTUS to intervene.

The immigrants & nonprofit org argued in their filings that Venezuela is still unsafe & the cancellation of the #TPS program was motivated by bias. “The Secretary explicitly relied on false, negative stereotypes—like the myth that Venezuela emptied its prisons to send migrants here—to justify both the vacatur & termination decisions. Her statements conflated Venezuelan TPS holders with ‘dirt bags,’ gang members, & dangerous criminals.”
